Favorite jewelry era: I could easily say Art Nouveau, but I often prefer jewels between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The ones which mix these two influences.
Most cherished personal piece of jewelry: I have so many cherished jewels but the most important is certainly a yellow gold snake ring with a luminous opal bead, made in France, circa 1910, I received this jewel from my mentor when I obtained my high-end jewelry polishing NVQ diploma. It was a longtime ago, before beginning jewelry journalist.
If money were no object, which iconic jewel would you like to own: My last crush is about a mobile starfish brooch made by Boivin and sold 300,000 euros in Paris. Not Art nouveau, but so wonderful!
Best book to learn about jewelry: Certainly French Jewelry of the Nineteenth Century written by Henri Vever. This book is a must-have to refer to when you are passionate by jewelry history.
Expert’s tip to a jewelry collection beginner: Buy what you love and what you want to wear. But always ask for detailed information about the metal, stones and maker’s mark — especially for antique or period jewelry where fake stones were often used.
