Favorite jewelry era: Chunky rose cut diamonds in closed back settings from the Georgian era and the clean geometric lines of the Art Deco. I cannot choose between the two!

Most cherished personal piece of jewelry/horology: A sapphire and diamond lady’s cocktail wristwatch which was my first self purchase at auction.

If money were no object, which iconic jewel/watch would you like to own: The Pencil Shavings brooch by Andrew Grima, 1968 cast in yellow gold and scattered with brilliant-cut diamonds. My heart jumps a beat every time I see it. Also an Art Deco sugarloaf emerald ring or psychedelic looking Australian opal with baguette diamonds are a winner for me!

Best book to learn about jewelry: Definitely Understanding Jewellery by Daniela Mascetti and David Bennett. I always have Stephen Giles’ Miller’s Jewellery Antiques as my go-to guide to identify and date genuine antique jewellery.

Expert’s tip to a jewelry collection beginner: Always buy what you love, a jewel that really speaks to your heart and make sure you wear it! If you ever go for colored gemstones, always look at the beauty of the color as this is by far the most important factor.
