Senior Analyst at Rapaport

Your area of expertise at Rapaport: I write news and features about anything diamond-related, but my favorite “beats” are the rough sector and the midstream. I enjoy following how dealers and manufacturers react to — and determine — market dynamics and price fluctuation.

The topics you most often write about: Recently, I have been covering the strategies of De Beers and Alrosa, the two largest diamond miners. I have also been looking into certain details of the post-lockdown recovery in diamond demand. These have included the upturn in prices of small, low-value stones, and the growing popularity of fancy shapes.

Most cherished personal piece of jewelry/horology: I have a couple of vintage automatic watches that were my father’s and grandfather’s. I keep them for special occasions. They’re far more reliable (and enjoyable to wear) than any of the newer, glow-in-the-dark, battery-powered alternatives.

If money were no object, which iconic jewel/watch would you like to own: I prefer diamonds in the rough, so I’d go back in time and buy a stone such as the Lesedi La Rona before it was polished.
