Looks your customer will want in her jewelry wardrobe for today and tomorrow.

Diamonds are always a classic choice for women’s jewelry. Check out the 2022 red-carpet shows, and you will see diamonds galore. But creativity abounds in today’s diamond pieces, allowing women to look current and chic while choosing pieces that are still enduring. The styles below represent five modern diamond classics that can integrate into or elevate an existing jewelry wardrobe.

Tennis bracelets
Diamond tennis bracelets are taking a page out of the past. In the 1920s, when they were still referred to as line bracelets, the pieces comprised cuts such as princess, square French and modified emerald. But during the 20th century , many of them featured round diamonds. Famously, Chris Evert’s round-diamond bracelet flew off her hand during the 1978 US Open and she stopped the match to find it, earning the style the moniker “tennis bracelet.” Although designers fashioned them with pull or “bolo” clasps when they came back into style approximately three years ago , they have taken on a new look with a combination of two or more fancy-cut diamonds.

The new versions create a look that is asymmetrical and more individualistic. Kwiat, which often sets trends in diamond jewelry, as well as EF Collection, offers mixed fancy-cut options in all colors of gold.

Tennis bracelets are equally beautiful in any color metal and can be worn alone or stacked with other cuts or even other styles of bracelets. For women who own a more traditional round-cut bezel- or prong-set tennis bracelet, purchasing one of the fancy-cut styles will add dimension and a well-placed asymmetry, adding a contemporary flair.

Forward-facing hoops
There was a time when hoop earrings went in and out of vogue. But over the past five to 10 years, they have taken on different design elements and qualities. They are here to stay. One of the more popular styles that continue to gain traction is the front-facing hoop. They are often set with a variety of cuts of diamonds or feature details that offer an elegant or edgy feeling. Designers who have been building on their collections include Fernando Jorge, Nikos Koulis, Jade Trau and Graziela.

“Forward-facing hoops are a favorite among today’s women, as they rest closer to the ear, allowing it to light up the face more than traditional-style hoops,” Graziela explains. “You can see the whole design forward facing, and there’s so much that a designer can create using the whole hoop, which allows for much more inventive styling. Women can have a wardrobe of studs, long party earrings and beautiful forward-facing hoops, and they are covered.”

The most wearable and versatile styles offer a big look without being heavy or pulling on the ear. There are a range of designs from circles inside circles, to celestial inspired motifs — diamonds that look like constellations, brightening up a woman’s face and outfit. They can take a woman through an entire day, looking effortless with any outfit.

Lariat necklaces
Rivière, chokers and charm or talisman necklaces are getting major attention due to different cultural inspirations: TV series, red-carpet jewels, Instagram influencers and a renewed interest in antique and vintage pieces. However, lariat necklaces have been gaining ground in gold and colored gemstones and are now becoming an essential in gold and diamonds. The lariat that is stationary or can be transformed into a round or doubled graduated style is the one that women are turning to as we head into spring/summer 2022.

This necklace works with almost every neckline and can also be layered or graduated with rivière/eternity necklaces, chokers, bib or multi-station necklaces. All diamond versions pop the yellow gold you have in your collection, and the mix of yellow gold and diamonds add a sleek, sophisticated vibe to short pendant necklaces that may seem out of date. Designers who feature different versions of this look include Suzanne Kalan, Walters Faith, Zoe Chicco and Uniform Object.

Lariat necklaces “allow women to change up their look and get more use out of the piece,” says Mollie Good of Walters Faith. “If a necklace can transform multiple ways, all the better. Our Clive Boa necklace can be worn as a lariat, wrap several times as a bracelet or a few times as a necklace, be worn long and can even accommodate charms the client may want to add on.”

Statement rings
Not all diamond rings are for engagements. Just look at the styles stars like Cynthia Erivo, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish rocked at the awards shows this past season. The time has come to wear the stacks you already own with a ring that makes a statement. These can feature multiple cuts of diamonds, exude a vintage look, or take on a contemporary slant. Designers such as Michelle Berlinger for Berlinger Jewelry, Anita Ko, Thelma West, Grace Lee, Jemma Wynne and a host of other established and independent designers are decorating the fingers with large sparklers that will instill happiness every time a woman looks at her hands.

“Diamond jewelry is a way for women to wear their inner strength on their hands,” says West. “Over the years, diamond rings have been pigeonholed into the engagement category, but I think of them as the ultimate way for a woman to celebrate herself and her accomplishments and have seen many women embrace this idea.”

There is a plethora of styles from which to choose, from longer looks that grace the finger up to the knuckle to chunky yellow gold rings with special cuts of diamonds, and gypsy, or flush set, rings.

Motif-driven jewelry
More and more designers are adding diamond motif-driven, symbolic or meaningful jewels to their collections. Diamonds already have their own meanings — endurance, durability and everlasting love — so why not add more symbolism, be it luck, love, protection or guidance? What’s most desirable about these types of jewels is that they are available in rings, pendants, bracelets and earrings and that they can provide us with strength, courage, hope and resilience.

Designers who excel in diamond symbolic or motif-driven pieces include Colette, Borgioni, a new collection by Amáli Jewelry, Arman Sarkisyan, State Property, Orly Marcel and Erica Molinari.

“Jewelry is an incredible medium for storytelling. Motif-driven pieces give collectors a way to weave personal elements into their larger collection,” says Colette Steckel of Colette Jewelry. “I’m always fascinated by how people style their pieces together to illustrate different chapters in their lives.”
