Drawing on a variety of sustainable and recycled materials, US designer Katey Brunini creates luxury pieces that endure.

Southern Californian jewelry designer Katey Brunini is known for her artistic approach to creating exquisite pieces that blend nature-inspired elements with luxurious craftsmanship.

Brunini’s interest in history, commitment to sustainability and desire to create gender-neutral pieces has resulted in a disruptive men’s collection, AeZeus Baldwin, whose ambassador is sales and marketing executive Jeffrey Baldwin.

All of the materials come from sustainable and recycled sources. The collection represents the four elements: Air, water, fire and earth.

The bold and elegant line blends fine jewelry with historic materials found in vintage silks and repurposed antique textiles. Born of a desire to have a cohesive space for her gender-neutral pieces created during the span of her 30-plus-year career, Brunini has integrated colored diamonds and 18-karat gold rings, South Sea pearl cuffs and wood and gem-heavy necklaces from her Shapes of Strength collections with new additions: oxidized and 18-karat gold and diamond bands, oversized opal cufflinks and her signature Twig cuffs with carved cameo shell and wood.

AeZeus Baldwin includes bejeweled scarves, ascots, bows, belts, and pins fashioned from antique Japanese kimono fabrics and remnants of vintage indigo-dyed Boro linens. “Whether it’s fossilized wood or boro remnants, our natural materials are a driving force of my creative process,” Brunini explains. “The strength and durability in these pieces will extend beyond our life span to unite future generations.”

Nature’s enigmatic wonders have inspired Brunini’s jewelry since she founded her brand K. Brunini Jewels in Solana Beach, California. A broad range of natural subjects from serpents, twigs, and spider webs to the double helix of DNA are featured in her works. Brunini often pairs vibrantly colored diamonds with sizable opals, baroque pearls and bone.

“I advise clients to choose gems and jewelry design with legacy in mind. We are the mere custodians of nature’s gifts. Be a friend to the earth, and select not for immediate gratification, but for longevity. Science, math, myth, technology, politics, finance, nature, art, and a spiritual X factor all play into building an important jewelry collection,” she says.
