Jewelry designer and painter Reena Ahluwalia discusses the most extraordinary jewels and diamonds from the country where these precious stones were originally discovered.

Golgonda diamonds and Maharajas’ treasures evoke a universe of splendor that has fascinated jewelry lovers throughout the centuries. In this new episode of the Jewelry Connoisseur Podcast, award-winning designer and diamond painter Reena Ahluwalia takes us on a tour of the most mesmerizing stones and jewels originating from India.

The Toronto-based artist highlights mythical stones such as the Koh-i-Noor and the Hope Diamond. She also discusses the techniques that have made Indian craftspeople famous around the world, including kundan, meenakari enamel, and granulation. Ahluwalia puts the spotlight on famous collectors who enthusiastically used their heirloom stones and commissioned European jewelry maisons to set them in spectacular creations. The Patiala necklace that Cartier made for the Maharaja of Patiala in 1928, with a yellow diamond from De Beers, is one such example.

The podcast is also the occasion to explore Ahluwalia’s artworks inspired by India’s rich history and traditions.
