Designer Linda Kozloff-Turner talks about her new coffee table book on 100 international jewelers, highlighting their diverse creations and shared challenges.

Each of the 100 living designers featured in Linda Kozloff-Turner’s book Women of Jewelry gets the chance to tell her story. These jewelers express themselves in 1,100-word essays alongside select photographs of their work, the culmination of interviews the author conducted with them over a period of seven years.

It was essential for her to celebrate designers of diverse styles, ages and locales, and she worked to ensure “global representation.” Among the women appearing in the book are Parisian Lydia Courteille, Los Angeles-based Erica Courtney, Nadia Morgenthaler of Geneva, and Karen Suen, who works in Hong Kong.

In this podcast, Kozloff-Turner — a Boulder, Colorado-based jewelry artist — discusses the making of the coffee table book and the planned exhibition and follow-ups that will accompany it. She also highlights some of the shared concerns and experiences her interviewees encountered.

As to whether women designers create jewelry differently, she finds that they are more careful with wearability and sustainability.
