The fine-jewelry brand celebrates the wonders of the animal kingdom in vivid gemstone combinations.

Sweta Jain, designer and president of New York-based fine-jewelry brand Goshwara, has been working with gemstones since childhood, when she would accompany her father on trips to mines in Africa. She launched her company in 2005 to fill a void in the market for luxuriously fun pieces, and her collections draw on a colorful palette of gemstones.

Goshwara’s latest collection, called Ark, reflects Jain’s passion for the beauty of the stones she works with as well as her love of animals. Creatures of the air, earth and oceans are captured in 18-karat yellow gold and set with a multicolored array of sapphires, rubies, diamonds, tsavorites and onyx.

From a bounding cheetah to a swooping owl, a placid panda and man’s best friend, the loyal dog, the Ark collection simultaneously celebrates the exotic, and also symbolizes humankind’s relationship with the creatures that inhabit our world. Jain’s artistry is apparent in every piece — her meticulous detail characterizes each animal and vivid gemstone combinations reflect the spirit of the wild. Offering both sophistication and whimsy, this range of brooches and pendant necklaces will inevitably appeal to animal lovers. Pieces are also designed to offer symbolic value to the wearer, whether that is the dragonfly’s spirit of “transformation, adaptability and harmony” or the eagle’s traits of strength and vision.

Jain hopes that the collection will raise awareness about animal welfare and promote kindness toward these creatures. “Today more than ever, it’s important to protect our environment. And being humane to animals is correlated to that. In addition, saving some of the species will give the future generations a chance to enjoy the beauty of these animals the way we had an opportunity to,” she says. “To that effect, a part of the proceeds from the sale of pieces from the Ark collection will be donated to animal- and environment-related charities.’’
